Avram Grant Surprised With West Ham's Improvement After Poor Start To The Premier League

Avram Grant has expressed his delight at his side’s reversal of fortunes following their dismal start to their Premier League campaign.

The Israeli commended his team for the way they approached the game after the interval but insists their first-half display was poor.

“They dominated the first half. Played the ball very well and made it difficult to play against them. I felt we gave them an easy life in the first half,” Grant told BBC Sport.

“It’s much more important to me that we came out in the second half and were a different team. We passed the ball better and scored.”

“The improvement is much quicker than I thought. The organisation is better. It’s taken two or three weeks to start coming along but we’re going the right way”

Grant admitted his decision to make changes at half time and switch to a three-pronged attack was to counter the threat of the visitors in the opening 45.

“It was too open in the first half and we didn’t pass the ball well. The change allowed us to control the ball better and get the goal.”

One West Ham player who has faced criticism over the past few weeks has been Robert Green. But the goalkeeper, who faced Clint Dempsey for the first time since his blunder at the World Cup, was singled out for praised by Grant.

“He’s a good goalkeeper,” said Grant.

“I told him to be patient and told people not to make judgements on him after only two or three games.”
