John Heitinga Critical Of Everton's 'Shameful' Display Against Hull City

Everton summer signing John Heitinga has described the Toffees' midweek performance against Hull City as "shameful".

The Dutch international believes the only way Everton can make amends for the 3-2 loss is by scalping local rivals Liverpool in the Merseyside derby at the weekend.

"It was shameful in the first half at Hull," Heitinga told The Mirror. "We know we weren't anywhere near the level we needed to be at.

"It's hard to explain why we were like that because normally we are solid and don't let teams score so easily."

The return of midfielder Steven Pienaar comes at a good time, the Dutchman added: "If I had to try to take a positive I would say that Stephen Pienaar played well for us, particularly in the second half.

"I've played with him for Ajax and I know he's a quality player who will help us a lot now he's over his injury."

Regarding the weekend derby, Heitinga said: "I've played in the Madrid derby for Atletico against Real and I know that the only way we can make up for this is by beating Liverpool. They are not going into the game in the best form either and we have a good chance to put this behind us."
