CECAFA Cup: Tanzania To Miss Defensive Linchpin Erasto Nyoni Due To Injury

Defender Erasto Nyoni failed to travel with Tanzania to Nairobi for the CECAFA Senior Challenge following a serious shoulder injury he sustained on Wednesday.

Nyoni suffered the injury during the last training session on Wednesday and was rushed to Temeke Hospital for treatment. Frederick Mwakalebela named Stephano Mwasika as his replacement.

Kilimanjaro Stars left for Nairobi with two goalkeepers - Mwarami Mohamed and Shaaban Kado - following the last minute removal of Shaaban Dihile. However, there were good tidings with the arrival on Tuesday of Henry Joseph, who plies his trade at Kongsvinger of Norway.

"I will fight hard for my country to prove that I am still worthy to serve my nation," Joseph was quoted as saying in The Citizen.

Kilimanjaro will play their opener against defending champions Uganda on Sunday in the Western Province of Kenyan town Mumias.

The players who left yesterday include Shadrack Nsajigwa, Erasto Nyoni, Juma Jabu, Kelvin Yondani, Juma Nyoso, David Naftali and Salum Swed.

The list also includes Shaaban Nditi, Ibrahim Mwaipopo, Nurdin Bakari, Mwinyi Kazimoto, Kigi Makasy, Mrisho Ngassa, Jerry Tegete, Mussa Hassan, John Boko and Danny Mrwanda.
