Bundesliga Saturday Round-up: Late Bremen Hold Wolfsburg, Dortmund Down Hoffe, M'gladbach Stun Schalke

Hertha Berlin 1-3 Eintracht Frankfurt

Frankfurt made easy work of a Hertha team that only showed up in the final quarter hour, at which time it was too late to recover. Patrick Ochs opened the scoring after 11 minutes before goals from Maik Franz (70) and Alexander Meier (75) made it 3-0 to the visitors. Hertha rallied late, but were only able to score a consolation goal through Gustavo Ramos (81).

Mainz 1-1 Hamburg

Tunay Torun fired Hamburg into the lead after just three minutes, but trouble loomed for the visitors as Eljero Elia was forced to be substituted in the 16th minute. The game opened up in the second half, but Hamburg were unable to fortify their lead and Mainz equalized six minutes from time as Tim Hoogland struck following a corner.

Nuernberg 0-1 Freiburg

Stefan Reisinger's close-range effort put Freiburg ahead in the 12th minute, and the visitors never let go. Nuernberg were dominant in possession and laid siege to the Freiburg goal, but resolute defending and inaccurate shooting foiled the home side.

Hoffenheim 1-2 Borussia Dortmund

Just after the opening whistle, Lucas Barrios fed Jakub Blaszcykowski into the penalty area, and the Polish international finished well.

The visitors defended well throughout the first half, but after the break, Hoffe withdrew two defenders in favour of midfielders, and went all out. Following a corner, Demba Ba drew the home side level, but Dortmund would have the last word. With eleven minutes to go, central defender Neven Subotic earned a penalty, which Nuri Sahin converted with ease.

Any chance of a Hoffenheim comeback was eliminated in the 81st minute, when substitute Maicosuel was sent off for fighting.

Werder Bremen 2-2 Wolfsburg

Werder controlled much of the first half, but it was Edin Dzeko who scored the first goal, a fantastic individual effort that handed Wolfsburg a one-goal advantage just before the break. Hugo Almeida drew Werder level on the hour mark, but Dzeko again scored against the run of play with five minutes to go. In the first minute of added time, Per Mertesacker headed in a corner, and Werder retained their unbeaten record, which now stands at 21 games in all competitions.

Borussia M'gladbach 1-0 Schalke

Marco Reus fired M'gladbach into an early lead, and the home side never looked back. Schalke were unable to hit stride until the final quarter hour, and by that time, it was too late. The M'gladbach defense denied Schalke any room inside the penalty area, and held on for a 1-0 win.
