Despite graduating from the Lazio youth academy, Atalanta striker Simone Tiribocchi is a hardcore Roma supporter and is relishing the upcoming visit of the Giallorossi to the Stadio Atleti Azzurri d'Italia.
The 31-year-old used to follow the Lupi from the Curva Sud stands while he was growing up in the Eternal City, but has vowed to put his feelings to one side on Sunday.
“My heart belongs to Roma, but if I get one good chance…” Tiribocchi said to La Gazzetta dello Sport.
“I have already managed to score a goal against the Giallorossi, while I was wearing the Chievo shirt.”
Atalanta have been revitalised by the appointment of coach Antonio Conte after a dismal start to the campaign under Angelo Gregucci, and are currently out of the relegation zone on goal difference after last week’s 2-0 win away to Siena.
“We are in good form and the victory at Siena boosted our morale,” said Tiribocchi.
With the clash against Roma looming, Tiribocchi was rested last night as Atalanta crashed out of the Coppa Italia after a 1-0 defeat to Lega Pro side Lumezzane.
