Stade Rennais Coach Frederic Antonetti Wants His Ligue 1 Leaders To Improve

Sunday evening saw Stade Rennais defeat Toulouse 3-1 to move to the summit of Ligue 1, but coach Frederic Antonetti was not totally pleased by his side’s display.

Goals from Romain Danze, Kader Mangane and Sylvain Marveaux gave les Rouge et Noir what was on the face of it a comfortable success, but Antonetti explained that he didn’t see things that way.

“Toulouse are very close to us in terms of quality and performance and it showed out on the pitch,” he confessed, according to Ligue 1’s official website. “We won the match thanks to our solid defence and some well-worked counter-attacks. Our first goal was a brilliant team move, but it was the only one in the whole game and there should be at least 10 moves like it per match.

“I’m happy for the players and the club that Rennes are first after eight games, but I’m the sort of coach that can’t be satisfied by this sort of match, even if we did show some good things.”

Meanwhile, Toulouse counterpart Alain Casanova, who saw his side reply though Moussa Sissoko very late on, said: “This defeat is very hard to accept and completely undeserved... Everything went according to play for them.”

Le Tefece enjoyed an earlier spell at the top of the table, but after failing to win any of their last four matches they’ve fallen to fourth.
