Atletico Madrid Enrique Cerezo President Calling For Iron Fist Approach From Coach Quique Flores

Atletico Madrid president Enrique Cerezo is demanding that new coach Quique Flores get tough on his players as the struggling mattress makers try to arrest their slump and climb the Primera Liga table.

Flores took over from Abel Resino late last month after a miserable start to the season for Atleti but since his appointment they have failed to gain a single point in the league, losing three from three and the club president is growing increasingly anxious about the clubs predicament.

Cerezo has instructed the former Valencia coach to rule with an iron fist at the Vicente Calderon and, if necessary, relegate big name players to the bench if they are not showing the desired effort and commitment.

Two players believed to be on the presidents radar for a shake up are Diego Forlan and Maxi Rodriguez, both of whom he feels have failed to deliver this season. In fact, it is reported that Cerezo is reluctant to renew the contract of the Argentine midfielder.

Los Colchoneros currently lie in the relegation places, 17 points adrift of their target of a UEFA Champions League place and must start collecting three points, starting with a win over Espanyol on Sunday night.
