Atletico Madrid Are Not Thinking About Relegation - Diego Forlan

After an awful start to the season, Atletico Madrid find themselves in the relegation zone after 11 matches.

Despite the fact they have only picked up one league victory so far, as well as being eliminated from the Champions League, Diego Forlan says that the players are not allowing themselves to think about dropping to the Segunda Division for the first time since 1999-2000.

"At the moment, we aren't talking about the possibility of relegation, although we are aware that we are in the drop zone," he told Marca.

"It isn't being talked about today, because there is a long way to go in the league, but we know that we must change the situation and we have to start winning, so that things don't become complicated. It depends on us, nothing more."

Los Colchoneros face Espanyol at the Vicente Calderon this weekend. While Forlan foresees a difficult encounter ahead, he has stressed the importance of winning the match.

"We have to start getting points, because it's necessary to get out of the bottom and start to gain confidence and to win, which is what we want.

"We know that every match is difficult now and they are all tough. Espanyol are a team with players who have been working together for some time and a coach who has the confidence of his squad, who have got out of a difficult situation, like last year - they were in the relegation zone and many people thought they were down but they got out of it very well and played very well."
