Arsenal Boss Arsene Wenger To Renew Interest In Marouane Chamakh - Report

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger might make a swoop for Girondins de Bordeaux centre-forward Marouane Chamakh, according to a report in The News of the World.

The Gunners' defeat by Chelsea on Sunday and the likely five-month absence of Robin van Persie are believed to be factors in Wenger's decision to revive his interest in the striker, around whom a long-running transfer saga developed in the summer.

It was believed that Wenger found Bordeaux's valuation of the player somewhat over the odds. However, with Chamakh's contract set to expire in the summer, he could expect to drive a harder bargain in January.

The 25-year-old is believed to favour a January switch himself so that his club can receive a fee, though the fact that he would be ineligible for the Champions League may dissuade Arsenal a little.

Toulouse's Andre-Pierre Gignac and Ruud van Nistelrooy of Real Madrid are also understood to be on Wenger's list of possible targets.
