England coach Fabio Capello has given a strong indication that David Beckham will be on the plane to South Africa for the 2010 World Cup. The Los Angeles Galaxy midfielder made his 114th appearance for the Three Lions when he came on as a substitute against Croatia this week, and has appeared regularly for the side - albeit mostly as a substitute - under Capello. In fact, only Gareth Barry has appeared more for England during the Italian’s reign. Clearly a keen admirer, Capello explained the importance of the former Manchester United man both on and off the pitch. He said to The Daily Mirror: “We will have to wait and see what happens in the next few months. "But David Beckham is always with us because, for me, he is an important player. “He is good in the group, he is good at every moment in training. Some players are important for the position and morale of the group.” Beckham will be 35 at the time of the 2010 World Cup. Eleven caps away from Peter Shilton’s all-time England record, he stands a chance of breaking that record in South Africa, form and fitness permitting. He will be the first Englishman to play in four World Cups.
