Inter to offer Lucio one-year contract extension after Copa America

Report claims defender will be offered new terms as meeting for discussions is set, but are only willing to offer an additional season, with the player hoping for a longer deal
Inter are ready to offer defender Lucio a one-year contract extension once he returns from the Copa America with Brazil.

The 33-year-old's current agreement at San Siro expires in June 2012, but he is still a big part of coach Gian Piero Gasperini's plans, and the club want to tie him down for an additional season.

Last month Lucio stated that he wanted a new two-year deal on top of his current terms, taking him to 2014, but La Repubblica claims the world champions are only willing to offer him one additional year.

Lucio, his agent Sandro Becker, and director Marco Branca are expected to meet after the Copa America to discuss a new package, and should negotiations fail, the former Bayern Munich defender will see out the remainder of his contract.

The stopper has played in both Copa America games for Brazil thus far with their matches against Venezuela and Paraguay ending in draws.
