River Plate Montevideo defender Bruno Montelongo faces a triangular trade fight as Milan and Manchester United are set to scrap it out over his signature at the end of term, according to reports in Italy.
Montelongo is currently on loan at Milan, who have an option to buy him at the end of term. But Milannews.it claims the club have dithered in making a decision, allowing Manchester United to snoop around.
Sir Alex Ferguson has sent a team of scouts to watch the defender, who is seen as a future replacement for Gary Neville.
A transfer of around €10 million has been touted in the rumours, but United's wishes all depend on whether Milan will use their option to take him on permanently from the player's parent club River Plate Montevideo.
For now Montelongo continues to play in the youth team, and he has yet to make an appearance for the Milan senior side.
