David Villa put Valencia ahead minutes into the second half, but Borja Valero's late penalty restored parity and earned Mallorca one point at a very difficult terrain.
A lively start from Valencia saw them create danger only on four minutes, when Bruno was played through down the right before sending the ball in for David Villa, who sent it flying over the bar.
The hosts thought they had scored in the ninth minute, but Villa's header from close range after being assisted by Silva was ruled out for offside.
Valencia were dealt a huge blow in the 28th minute, when Silva had to leave the pitch after picking up a knock, being replaced by Joaquin.
The first chance for the visitors came only three minutes from half time, when a good build up near the edge of the box put the ball with Victor Casadesus, who had almost no opposition but his shot went over the bar.
Los Che came out strongly in the second half and grabbed the lead in the 49th minute, through Villa, who tapped in Banega's header following a corner from the right.
El Guaje almost added a second on 62 minutes, when he controlled well Pablo Hernandez's cross, but his left-footed strike was easily stopped by Aouate.
Juan Mata incredibly missed the opportunity to make it 2-0 in the 72nd minute after an amazing through ball by Villa, which he could not make full use of as his shot went straight at Aouate and in the rebound he sent it wide.
Mata would turn provider just moments later, when he passed the ball first time to Joaquin, whose volley bounced back off the post.
Mallorca were awarded a penalty in the 84th minute after Bruno brought down Castro inside the area when they were both jumping for the ball. and Borja Valero made no mistake from the spot, sending Cesar the wrong way to equalise the match.
The visitors will walk out of the Mestalla the happier of the two sides, as Valencia did more than enough to win the match, but their wastefulness in front of goal really cost them tonight.
