Basel midfielder Mohamed Elneny is having a medical with Arsenal, according to the former assistant coach of the Egypt national side.
Several reports in England have claimed that the 23-year-old has already agreed personal terms on a four-and-a-half-year contract and will finalise his £5 million move after completing a medical and receiving a work permit.
And now, Dia El Sayed, who worked with Elneny for Egypt’s Under-20s and the senior side, claims on Twitter that the midfielder is having a medical with the Gunners.
Arsene Wenger is desperately seeking cover in central midfield following long-term injuries to Francis Coquelin, Santi Cazorla and Jack Wilshere.
Elneny, who has been capped 39 times by Egypt, has scored four goals in 21 appearances for Basel this season.
